The Roanoke County Public Schools Education Foundation promotes the vision and strategic priorities of Roanoke County Public Schools through the development and distribution of donated financial resources. One of the primary ways that the Foundation directly supports the work of classroom teachers is the teacher grant program. The purpose of the grant program is to fund classroom projects using project-based and inquiry-centered learning to help students go beyond learning in today’s academic context to develop Opportunity Ready skills and knowledge. All teachers employed by Roanoke County Public Schools are eligible to apply for classroom grants.
The teacher grant program reflects the division’s vision to prepare students not only in the traditional core subjects, but also to develop skills in critical thinking, communication, creativity, innovation, and collaboration. In order for students to succeed, they need to be able to use technology to learn content and skills so they know how to learn, think critically, solve problems, use information, communicate, innovate and collaborate. This includes authentic STEM-related projects. The project should be a rigorous learning experience.
The Foundation funds projects that directly enhance student learning and that are innovative, creative and closely align with project-based learning. We do not fund basic school supplies, parties, professional development for teachers, guest speakers, or purchases that otherwise would be funded by the school division and will not be used solely for technology or equipment.
The grant amount could be as much as $250 per project. Preference will be given to new applications.
