About the Program In Auto Service Technology, the students receive theory and hands-on training in automotive repair in order to prepare for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification testing. The state competency list is used as a guide and ASE test prep materials are utilized. The state competency list is given to the student at the beginning of the school year to be kept in their classroom binder. The student is involved in Skills USA (VICA) where they learn professionalism and leadership skills. Throughout the year, students go through safety training and complete Professional Development Training. Students also prepare for Automotive Youth Education System (AYES) summer internship (subject to availability). Automotive technicians must have:thorough knowledge of automotive systems, good computer skills, excellent communication skills, above average mechanical aptitude, good reasoning ability, and the ability to read and follow instructions.
