About the Program Let’s build a house! A dream of many citizens is to not only own a house, but to build their own home. So who trains those carpenters, electricians, and plumbers needed for house construction? We do at Burton. In fact we build the house right on the school site, auction it off, and allow the homeowner to move it to their location. During their classes at Burton students choose their area of specialty – carpentry, electrical wiring, or plumbing. So if you want to work in a high-demand, great paying job, consider Building Trades. Students in Building Trades II may have the opportunity to co-op with Contractors in the Roanoke area.
The Building Trades program at Burton is a doorway into the high paying careers found in the construction industries. Skilled builders who are willing to work hard are in high demand and there are many career opportunities waiting to be taken. Construction jobs can pay the same amount as that of a four year college graduate. Students in this course will learn skills in carpentry/cabinetry, electrical wiring, and plumbing. Students will also have the opportunity to earn certifications through NCCER. Begin building your future at Building Trades.
