Locked On Gun Safety
In recent years, our community has experienced several incidents where children and teenagers managed to get hold of unsecured weapons. Some of these incidents have had tragic results. Roanoke County Public Schools and the Roanoke County Police Department are teaming up to ask parents who possess weapons at home, in the car, in the office or elsewhere, to please take the extra step of ensuring these weapons are securely stored so that unauthorized people can’t gain access to them. Our goal is to make sure children and/or criminals don’t get their hands on weapons. This is not a pro-gun or anti-gun effort. This is all about the safety of our students and our community.
In August 2019, Jenna Zibton from WSLS aired the first of several stories about this campaign. We hope you will take a few moments to watch: https://www.wsls.com/news/roanoke-county-schools-get-involved-in-gun-safety-campaign.
