Gifted Art
The Roanoke County Public Schools Gifted Art Program offers enrollment in after school and summer enrichment programs for students in grades three (3) through eighth (8) identified as exceptionally talented in art.
A student may be nominated to be screened for the gifted art program beginning in second grade.
Any parent or Roanoke County Schools employee may nominate a student for the gifted art program.
The screening process consists of the following steps:
1. Nomination (digital link below)
2. Permission to screen (e-mailed to parent or guardian)
3. Two screening drawings (instructions e-mailed to parent or guardian)
4. Rating scale completed by the student's art teacher (e-mailed to art teacher)
5. The drawings are scored by a committee of four art professionals.
6. Notification sent to parent or guardian.
Gifted Art Nominations
The nomination window is now closed for the 2023-24 school year.
The nomination window will open again on October 1, 2024.

Gifted Art Deadlines 2023-2024
For students not yet identified for Gifted Art:
October 1, 2023
The nomination link will become active on the Gifted Art page of the RCPS website.
December 1, 2023
The first (of two) deadlines for submission of drawings for screening process. Any drawings submitted by this deadline will receive results from the screening committee prior to winter break.
December 15, 2023 (approximately)
Parents will receive e-mail notice of acceptance or denial for completed screenings received on or prior to December 1. Students accepted into the Gifted Art program at this point will be eligible to register for the summer camp sessions.
April 1, 2024
For those looking to be screened for Gifted Art, this is the last date to start the nomination process and still have sufficient time to complete the entire process.
May 1, 2024
The second (of two) deadlines for submission of drawings for screening process. Any drawings submitted by this deadline will receive results around June 15. Nominations or screening materials received past May 1 will not be eligible for Fall 2024 Gifted Art sessions.
June 15, 2024 (approximately)
Parents will receive e-mail notice of acceptance or denial for screenings received on or prior to May 1.

July 15, 2023
Registration link for the fall program of 2023 e-mailed to parents of Gifted Art students.
August 18, 2023
Last date to register and pay the student's school (by cash, check, or My School Bucks).
March 2024 (Invitation to be sent out by your Gifted Art teacher)

April 5, 2024

May 5, 2024
Summer registration forms due with payment to student's school.
May 28 - May 31, 2024
1st week of summer camps. (Choose only one week, both week's lessons are the same.)
