Friends and families of graduating Roanoke County seniors will be able to watch the pomp and circumstance of graduation on May 27 & 28 even if they can’t be in the stands in person. Roanoke County Public Schools (RCPS) will provide award-winning live streaming coverage of graduation ceremonies with the 16th edition of Graduation Live.

Roanoke County’s Department of Development Services is pleased to announce that Roanoke County Public Schools has earned its first Stormwater Clean Award for the outstanding work underway at the site of the upcoming Roanoke County Career and Technology Center .

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has named Hidden Valley High School journalism teacher Matt Neale as the 2026 Virginia Teacher of the Year. Neale was one of eight regional teachers of the year who were finalists for the Va. Teacher of the Year Award. Neale will now be Virginia's nominee for the 2026 National Teacher of the Year, which will be announced next spring.

“How are we going to cultivate character today?” This is what Kristen Canipe, a marketing teacher at Cave Spring High School, says is the heartbeat of her classroom. Canipe, the 2025 Golden Apple Teacher of the Year, says “adolescence is a pivotal time, shaping the leaders of tomorrow,” and that she works to model respect, responsibility and safety in everything she does.
