RCPS Adoption Information
Roanoke County Public Schools will be adopting new textbooks and instructional materials for Mathematics (K-12), Social Studies (K-4, 6-8) and various Career and Technical Education (CTE) & Business courses as outlined below, over the next few months. Committees made up of teachers, school staff and parents will be reviewing and making recommendations to the school board in the coming months.
Courses included in this instructional materials adoption are as follows:

- Middle School Math 6th – 8th
- Algebra I, Geometry & Algebra II (AGA)
- Computer Mathematics
- AFDA (Algebra, Functions, and Data Analysis)
- College Algebra (with Trig)
- PreCalculus
- AP Calculus AB & BC
- AP Statistics
- Data Science
SOCIAL STUDIES
- Elementary SS KG-4th
- Grade 6/7 US History I & II
- Civics- Grade 8
CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION / BUSINESS
- Principles of Business and Marketing (online component critical)
- Econ and Personal Finance (online component critical)
- Fashion Marketing
- Criminal Justice
- Marketing Strategies
- Child Development
- Sports and Entertainment Marketing
The public is invited to review these materials online at the links provided in each corresponding document which is updated as information becomes available.
The public is invited to review the physical samples sent in by the various publishers from March 4th through April 4th. To review materials, the individual(s) need to make an appointment with Brian Weeks by emailing blweeks@rcps.us or calling 540.562.3982.
The public is welcome to comment regarding textbook adoption and materials to the instructional staff and school board by submitting a written comment to Brian Weeks, Textbook Manager or at 5937 Cove Rd. Roanoke, VA 24019 by no later than April 4th, 2025. Adoption results are expected to be finalized and taken to the school board for approval by mid-May or early June at the latest.
According to state guidelines, school districts must adopt textbooks and instructional materials, but do not have to purchase. RCPS plans to purchase materials as funds allow.
