Preschool Application via Smart2Start
Thank you for your interest in Roanoke County Public Schools Virginia Preschool Initiative Program (VPI). At the link below you will find the application for all programs serving children birth to 5. Completion of this application authorizes a release of information for programs that you request, or are deemed eligible for. A printable application is below.
If your child qualifies and is accepted for a Head Start Program, you will be notified immediately.
The Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) Program was established as a grant program that shall be used to provide at least half-day services for the length of the school year for at-risk three-year-old and four-year-old children who are unserved by Head Start programs and for at-risk five-year-olds who are not eligible to attend kindergarten. The services shall include quality preschool education; health services, including nutrition access programs; social services; parental involvement, including activities to promote family literacy; and transportation. A child who is age five on or before September 30 of the school year would not be eligible for the VPI l programs, as they are eligible for Kindergarten.
Each year the funding for the Virginia Preschool Initiative Program is determined by the State Legislative Budget. If you are applying to enroll in the public school preschool, when the school division has been notified of funding, all applications received to that date will be processed and families will be informed of the status of their application.
If your first choice is unavailable, you may be referred to receive preschool services through another program.
