SNAP in Schools
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides nutrition benefits to supplement the food budget of families so they can purchase healthy food.
“What is SNAP IN SCHOOLS?”
· In collaboration with the VDSS and the VDOE, the purpose is to bridge the food insecurity gap among school-age children across the Commonwealth. The goal is to increase participation in the SNAP for school-age children through partnerships with the VDOE and local education agencies.
“What is SNAP?”
· SNAP provides nutrition benefits to supplement the food budget of families so they can purchase healthy food options to enjoy at home.
“How do I know if I am eligible for SNAP?”
· SNAP benefits are calculated based on household size, income, expenses, and other nonfinancial criteria.
“Where/how do I apply for SNAP benefits?”
· Families are encouraged to visit CommonHelp.virginia.gov to check their eligibility and apply online.
