Location and Transportation
Transportation will be provided from each of the division’s 16 elementary schools then back home at the end of the session. Summer School will be held at Northside High School.

Meals
Breakfast and lunch will be provided at no cost for students attending the Northside HS program.

Program
Students may register for a repeat summer school course only if they have been previously enrolled in the course for its duration.  Students may enroll in two (2) repeat classes.  All subjects are taken for credit.

All repeat courses are provided through Edgenuity or Canvas, an online, individualized program of study with assistance from certified RCPS teachers.  Students take a pre-assessment to determine the learning standards in which they are deficient. Once they begin the class, Students must meet summer school attendance requirements; however, when students demonstrate proficiency in the required standards they will be released with approval of the administration.

Grade Reporting
Final grades for both sessions will be mailed in July.

Special Education/504
Special Education Services for Extended School Year (ESY) are considered and determined by the IEP on an annual basis. Attendance at Summer School is elective and not determined by the IEP/504 team.  Specially designed instruction as designated by the IEP is not provided during summer school.

Attendance and Conduct
Students must report on the first day they are notified. A note from a parent/guardian is required on all absences and tardies.  Medical or other appointments should be made after school hours.

Students taking driver education must attend each in-person instructional day to meet the state-mandated hours of instruction. If you plan to take Driver Education as part of Health and PE 10, you cannot be absent on any day of instruction.

Attendance is required on all Health and PE 9 and 10 in-person instructional days to have the required instructional hours.  Students may be asked to give up their seat and return at a later date due to persistent tardies and or absences.

Two (2) violations of discipline, one (1) serious infraction of the Conduct Code, or skipping class may lead to dismissal from summer school with No Refund.  A final grade of "F" will be given.  Students will be governed by the Roanoke County Public Schools Conduct Code.

Due to the nature of the program, cell phones will be placed in a hanging organizer before the start of each class and may only be accessed during scheduled breaks.
