Roanoke County Public Schools showcased the brightest young scientific minds at the 2025 Roanoke County Science Fair, held on February 22 at Northside High School. The annual competition featured outstanding projects from middle and high school students across Roanoke County and the Roanoke Valley Governor’s School, highlighting innovative research in fields ranging from environmental science to engineering and biomedical research.
The top three winners in each category will advance to the Western Virginia Regional Science Fair on March 8, 2025, at Virginia Western Community College.
A panel of esteemed judges, including professionals from Virginia Tech, Roanoke College, and local STEM industries, evaluated student projects based on creativity, scientific method, and presentation. The event was made possible thanks to the dedication of educators, volunteers, and community supporters who continue to foster a passion for science and innovation among students.
Each year, the Roanoke County Science Department selects a middle school and high school to receive the annual Roanoke County Science Fair Trophy, based on the overall performance of participating students from each school.
The 2025 winners of the Roanoke County Science Fair Trophy are:
- Middle School: Glenvar Middle School
- High School: William Byrd High School
These students will represent Roanoke County Public Schools at the Western Virginia Regional Science Fair on March 8, 2025, at Virginia Western Community College, where they will compete against students from across the region.
