Dr. Ryan White

Dr. Ryan White was elected to Roanoke County School Board as the Windsor Hills representative in November 2025. Dr. White is honored to serve the community and remains committed to building a school system that reflects its values, hopes, and highest aspirations for the future.

Dr. White is a physician specializing in adolescent and young adult mental health, bringing a clinically informed and student-centered perspective to the Roanoke County School Board. As the elected representative for the Windsor Hills District, he is committed to fostering safe, supportive, and academically strong schools where every student can reach their full potential.

In his medical practice, Dr. White works directly with young people and their families, providing evidence-based care focused on mental wellness, development, and resilience. His daily work with adolescents gives him a firsthand understanding of the pressures today’s students face, including academic stress and social challenges. He believes strongly that when students feel supported and teachers are empowered, the entire community thrives.

Dr. White obtained his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Texas at San Antonio. While obtaining his Master of Science from University of Texas at San Antonio, he focused on cellular and molecular biology, and courses on the neuroscience of learning. He went on to obtain his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine at Seton Hill in Pennsylvania. After graduating medical school, Dr White trained in upstate New York in General Psychiatry before moving to Roanoke Virginia to complete a fellowship in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. 

A long-term resident of Roanoke along with his wife, daughter and four dogs, Dr White has served patients through both our local community services board and in academic medicine roles. He maintains membership in state and national medical societies where he engages in advocacy for his community and patients everywhere to be able to obtain high-quality, evidence-based mental health care. His medical training emphasized holistic, whole-person care, an approach that shapes his commitment to thoughtful, data-informed decision making and collaborative problem-solving on the School Board.

A proud resident of the Windsor Hills District, Dr. White is actively engaged in local schools and community events. Building on his experiences in industry, in medicine, as an educator and as an advocate, Dr. White is dedicated to strengthening trust between families, educators, and the school system, and to ensuring Roanoke County Schools remain places where excellent teachers want to work and where students feel safe, challenged, and supported.
