RCPS hands out more than 2300 meals during first day of meal delivery service
During the first day of bagged meal delivery, Roanoke County Public Schools delivered 2,344 meals to families across Roanoke County using the district’s school buses. Bagged meal delivery will continue each weekday via the regularly scheduled afternoon school bus routes while schools are closed due the COVID-19 pandemic.
Additionally, beginning tomorrow, a hot pre-prepared meal will be available each weekday for parents to pick up at eleven schools across Roanoke County from Noon to 12:30 p.m. Those schools are:
- Burlington Elementary School
- Cave Spring Middle School
- Clearbrook Elementary School
- Glen Cove Elementary School
- Glenvar High School
- Green Valley Elementary School
- Herman L. Horn Elementary School
- Masons Cove Elementary School
- Mount Pleasant Elementary School
- Oak Grove Elementary School
- Penn Forest Elementary School
Parents are asked to submit a meal survey found online to sign up for either meal delivery or hot meal pickup. Parents only need to complete the form once unless they need to make a change. Alternatively, parents can call their child’s school to signup for meal delivery. All meals are free.
“I’m very proud that we were able to deliver thousands of meals to families today. This is something we’ve never done before and we’ve learned some things today to help us improve the process so we can provide meals to even more families in the coming days,” said Don Butzer, Chairman of the Roanoke County School Board.
