School Board accepting applications for Catawba District seat
The Roanoke County School Board is accepting applications for the Catawba District seat on the school board that will become vacant in June. Current Catawba District member, Don Butzer, announced he will be leaving the school board in June due to an upcoming move to Northern Virginia. The school board will appoint a new board member until the election is held in November to determine who will complete the current term that will conclude in 2023.
Those wishing to apply to fill the vacant seat until the election this November, should send their applications by email to Angela Roberson, clerk of the Roanoke County School Board at aroberson@rcps.us, by no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, May 24.
Applicants must be residents of the Catawba magisterial district.
Applications should contain, but not be limited to:
- Name
- Address
- Contact phone number
- E-mail address
- Education
- Work background
- Ties to Roanoke County Public Schools
- Brief statement about why you are seeking the appointment
- Any other information you would like to share with the School Board
The length of the submitted application should not exceed two typed pages.
No one will be considered who did not file an application by the stated deadline. Individual board members will have access to applications as the school board clerk receives them.
On May 24 at 6 p.m., the school board will release the names of individuals who submitted applications. Candidates will be interviewed in a public work session on June 1 at 3:30 p.m. On June 10, the final candidate will be announced.
The person appointed must meet the qualifications for office before sitting on the board. The School Board reserves the right to modify this procedure as necessary.
Those interested in running for election for the Catawba District seat in November must file the necessary paperwork by August 13 with Roanoke County election officials.
