Today is Friday, December 1, 2022, and it is a B day!

  • There will be no baseball today. Next open field is Tuesday after school at the field. 

  • After day 1 of the canned food drive, Mr. Franklin’s and Mrs. Haynie’s classes are tied with 13 cans each! Keep bringing in cans to earn a FREE Chick-fil-a breakfast.

  • The senior spirit committee will meet on Monday at 7:45 in the library to plan the winter sports themes!
  • Do you want to be Santa for a child in need? The Highlander Helpers’ Toys for Tots drive officially kicks off next week. Starting Monday, please bring a toy, book, or other gift that can be donated to less fortunate children in our community. The toy drive will run for just over a week.. until Tuesday, December 13.

    Highlander Helper members, please sign up for a time to collect toys before school. The sign-up sheet is located on the information board outside of Mrs. Edmonds’ class in the English hall.

  • Your Swimming Highlanders opened the 2022-23 season at the Bedford YMCA vs Liberty High School.  The Highlanders won the overall competition by a score of 133 - 123.  The boys team dominated with a 85-27 victory while the girls took a loss at 96-48 despite winning five events. Individual winners on the night were Claire Griffith (twice), Adrianna Hall (twice), Davis Norman, Landon Cairns (twice), Zander Honaker, Lucas Birdlebough and Avery Thompson.  Swimmers are back in action next Tuesday at the Botetourt YMCA in a five team dual.

  • The Disc Golf Club will meet at 1PM this Sunday at Highland Park in Roanoke.
  • Hey Juniors!  It's time to start getting things together for Groovy Teens!  If you want to participate, you need to come to the required interest meeting at 7:45am on Wednesday, December 7th in Room 113.  If you are unable to attend, please talk to Mrs. Quesenberry to get information.
  • This is a reminder to students interested in applying to programs at the Burton Center next year: the application deadline is January 15. For any students interested in the Center for Engineering, Mass Communication, Performing Arts or Visual Arts – it is recommended to apply before Winter Break because those programs have additional application requirements.   • JV and Varsity Softball workouts resume next week as follows:

    Tuesday, December 6 - 6:00-8:00pm

    Thursday, December 8 - 6:00-8:00pm

    Monday, December 12 - 6:00-8:00pm

    Wednesday, December 14 - 3:30-5:30pm

    Workouts will also be held over the winter break.   More information on that will follow.

  • Hey students, do you know what time it is?—It’s SHOW TIME! This week only, Theatre Glenvar High will present the outrageous comedy “A Christmas Chaos”—a spoof of Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol. The show will be staged on Saturday. There will NOT be a Friday performance—please support our Basketball Team at their first home game on Friday.

    Tickets for the play are $5 general admission and can be purchased at the door on show nights. House will open at 6:30pm and curtain will be at 7—don’t miss this great evening of Laughs!!!

  • It’s time for the annual FBLA/DECA canned food drive! Cans will be collected during B2 from 12/1-12/15. The B2 class with the most cans will win a FREE Chick-fil-a breakfast courtesy of FBLA/DECA.
  • French Club apparel is now available! Look for posters around the school with the link to order a t-shirt or a hoodie. You do not have to be a member of the French Club to order apparel. All orders must be placed by December 7th. We will also be making ornaments and writing letters to the elderly at Richfield during our December club meeting. Everyone is welcome to join us! There will be more information to follow.
