Chairman Butzer announces he will resign from the school board in June
Don Butzer, chairman of the Roanoke County School Board and Catawba District member, today announced he will be resigning his post on the school board effective June 10 due to an upcoming move to northern Virginia.
“Serving on the school board has been an honor and personally fulfilling,” said Butzer.
Butzer was appointed to the Roanoke County School Board on July 12, 2016 to serve a portion of the unexpired term for the Catawba District seat. He was elected to serve a full term in November, 2016 and was re-elected in 2020. He served as vice-chair in 2018 and was chairman in 2019, a portion of 2020 and 2021 until his upcoming resignation in June.
Butzer had previously announced he would not seek re-election. The school board will select an individual to replace Mr. Butzer until the election in November. Applicants for the open seat will be submitted to the chairman of the school board and the candidates will be interviewed in a public setting. More details on this process will be announced soon.
