Benson named new principal at HVMS
The Roanoke County School Board has selected Chris Benson as the new principal at Hidden Valley Middle School (HVMS), effective Dec. 14. Benson replaces Sammy Fudge, who retired last month. Benson has been serving as the assistant principal at HVMS since July 2017. He first joined Roanoke County Public Schools in 2010 as a Spanish teacher at Cave Spring High School. Benson is a graduate of Roanoke County Public Schools. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia, a master’s degree from Hollins Unviersity and an Educational Specialists degree in educational leadership and policy studies from Virginia Tech.
“I’m very pleased that Chris will continue his leadership at HVMS, now as the school principal,” said Dr. Ken Nicely, superintendent of Roanoke County Public Schools. “He has been a very successful assistant principal and has earned the respect of the faculty and students. I’m confident Hidden Valley Middle will continue their tradition of educational excellence under Chris’ leadership,’ Dr. Nicely said.
“I also want to thank Joe Hafey for filling in as acting principal while we worked to select a new principal,” Dr. Nicely added.
