Kindergarten registration for 2024-25 school year begins with kickoff events on Feb. 12 & 19

student working on a math pageFor hundreds of young students across Roanoke County, the journey to learn will begin on February 12 and 19 as their parents register their children for kindergarten for the 2024-2025 school year.

All students who will be age 5 or older by Sept. 30, 2024, are eligible to register for kindergarten for the 2024-2025 school year, which will begin on Aug. 15, 2024.   To register a child for kindergarten, parents should schedule an appointment with the elementary school their child will attend.  If parents are unsure which elementary school their child will attend, please see the School District Locator at https://schoolview.roanokecountyva.gov/schoolview/.

Parents can schedule registration appointments for the kickoff days of Feb. 12 and 19, or parents can schedule an appointment for any regular school day after Feb. 19.

Parents should bring the following information to registration:
•    Child’s birth certificate
•    Immunization records
•    Proof of residency in Roanoke County (a mortgage, a pending contract, a copy of a lease or a property tax statement will be accepted as proof of residency)
•    Note:  A driver’s license or vehicle registration will not be accepted as proof of residency.

Schools must have the physical and immunization record on file prior to the first day of school or students will not be allowed to attend school.  Children currently enrolled in a Roanoke County Public Schools preschool program who are eligible for kindergarten must go through the registration process.  If the date of the current physical and immunization record on file exceeds 12 months of the first day of school, an updated physical and immunization record is required before the first day of school.

For additional information and forms that parents need to complete, print, sign and bring to registration, please see www.rcps.us/registration.
